November 2024.
Tiffany Stoner ran for Statehouse District 25. This part of the state had been represented by Republicans for as long as anyone could remember. Political winds were shifting but the expected result was an easy win for the incumbent.
64 votes. That's it.
The closest legislative race in the United States. Not 6,000. Not 600. Sixty-four. If 30 households take action this year, that seat turns blue. If three book clubs take action this year, that seat turns blue. If you and your friends take action this year, that seat turns blue.
Meanwhile, 1,093 likely supporters in the district didn't show up at all.
Even with critical decisions to be made — more than 30% of voters didn't participate. Over a thousand people who would have likely voted our way just… stayed home.
We don't need a miracle. We need 64 people.
That's it. 64 people who sat it out last time, who'll show up this time. Not a wave. Not a movement. Just 64 neighbors who decide it's worth it.
